Jessica Adams may have inherited the family construction business, but there are strings attached. Big, deal-breaking strings. The big wig to whom her grandfather had already agreed to sell the company? Daniel Spencer, her ex-lover…and the father of her seven-year-old son. Only, he doesn’t know.

What started as a standard business acquisition turns Daniel's world inside out. Leaving Jessica was the biggest mistake of his life. A mistake that compounds when he meets her son. Correction—their son. He might need a crash course in parenting, but that doesn’t stop him from laying everything on the line to put together a much different kind of merger—ifhe can convince Jessica to trust him with her life…and their son’s.

What would you do if you went to a meeting only to bump into your ex-lover, the one you have a child that he doesn’t know about with? Oh and the meeting your about to have, is about his company trying to buy out and close yours. Think you could handle that? This is the dilemma that faces our heroine Jessica in this book.

I really liked the idea that this could happen and how the author played the whole thing out. From the initial run in with Jessica and the hero of the book Daniel (and he really is a hero in my eyes), his bombshell discovery, how he handles it, to some very funny moments with their son Jonathon to the last page when I was grinning like a fool.

There were some incredibly tender moments too. Like when Johnathon offered Daniel all his life savings to move in with him and Jessica. I loved that little kid. He was a scene stealer. Watch for when he catches them kissing and the awkward aftermath. I was laughing, cringing and laughing again while reading it.

When Daniel Spencer temporarily moved to Glenwood Falls to complete a business acquisition he never expected to run into his ex-lover Jessica and he really never expected to find out he’s a father to a seven year old little boy. Now he has to deal with business, Jessica and the feelings she brings up and his son.

Jessica who has recently lost her grandfather, has enough to deal with running her company and raising her son. She doesn’t need the added stress of finding out that her grandfather was close to selling the company. Not to mention that the man hired to buy the company is none other than the father of her son. The man who broke her heart eight years ago.

When the truth comes out in the form of a chance meeting, things go from complicated to very complicated. On both the business and personal front. Daniel still needs to buy the company so he can advance the corporate ladder but Jessica won’t sell and the passion they thought gone flares to life whenever they get within touching distance of each other.

Her smile sent a spike of desire shooting through Daniel. His gaze roamed over her smooth skin and the sparkle in her gorgeous brown eyes. He could spend a lifetime staring at her and it still wouldn’t be enough.

When they give into that passion, despite it not being a good idea things get even more complicated. How can the stop falling for the other despite the seemingly insurmountable obstacles in their way? Can passion, drive and the will and need to be there for family enable them to find their happy ever after?

This was the first book for me from this author and it won’t be the last. I enjoyed how the story was moved along but you didn’t feel like you missed anything. Plus we have the added bonus of looking forward to possible books for Jessica’s best friends Ian and Brad. That was also something different, male best friends. Fantastic. This reader thinks it’s a perfect beach or fireside read.

Merger of the Heart Glenwood Falls Book 1 edition by Melia Alexander Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews

Loved this second-chance romance! I don't usually enjoy or read books where the love-interests have previously met, but Melia kept me interested and engaged throughout the entire book and I loved it. Jessica and Daniel had just the right amount of angst and passion (love the passion - whew!) to keep it going, and their son was cute as a button and believable in his character. Stayed up late to read it! I'm looking forward to more from Melia.
I read this in two sittings, and probably could have zipped through it in one, oblivious to how soon the alarm clock was gong to ring, except I didn't download it until after midnight. The set-up concerning a construction company is fresh and interesting, and Daniel and Jessica are great characters who remain true to the way Ms. Alexander created them. Daniel at one point does something so stupid I wanted to smack him, but it is totally a guy thing to do and in character for him. And the fact that I was mad at him (not the book) proved how drawn I was into this wonderfully written story, how invested I'd become in these characters and their happily-ever-after. Speaking of HEA, there was an obvious solution near the end, but the author avoided the expected. It's a romance so you know they're somehow going to overcome the obstacles and end up in a loving, long-term relationship ... yet Ms. Alexander still surprised me -- in a good way -- several times through the story, and especially at the end. I look forward to reading more from her!
Some reviews note this is sweet -- and it is, in many ways -- but be advised there is more than one love scene. Very well written scenes, and also very detailed. Steamy, even. The bedroom door is most definitely not closed.
Jessica Adams is a single mother. Her seven year old son is her life. Since her grandfather's death she has been fighting to save his business, Lawrence Construction, from a merger. Could things get worse? Yes. They can. Daniel Spencer, her former lover, is in charge of negotiating for the other side. Emotions take control when he finds out that Jonathon is his son. He never knew he existed. Now he wants to be part of both their lives. Will they become a family? The characters are strong willed and passionate people. It was easy to be pulled into their story. I liked them and understood their conflicted emotions. Their past still is painful. It's hard to let go of the hurt. Jessica and Daniel have a love-hate relationship. I wanted these two to put aside their differences and realize they loved each other. The secondary characters were interesting especially Ian Savage. Both the dialogue and the setting added to the mood. This is a well written story that was filled with so many emotions. Melia Alexander is a talented author who did a great job bringing this story to life.
It's a fun read, and worth the time. The main leads are likeable yet flawed characters--thus, they seem real. And their son is probably a scene-stealer. The writing was pretty good, and most of the side characters that we meet have depth without stealing the show. Maybe the ending is a little cheesy, but it's sweet.

One thing I will say is that anyone who could be considered an antagonist never made a "physical" appearance. The issues with her mother were never really concerning, and I almost pictured Daniel's boss to be some cackling, mustache-twirling old guy. He never felt real, nor did Daniel's mother, who unwittingly had a huge hand in their separation, yet doesn't get any screen time. So, while the side characters we did meet were done well, more could've been done with the others.

Also, the family drama issues were weird. Nothing was ever explained about Jessica's family, and things still seemed pretty unresolved with Daniel's. Also, the story of why he thought his father left was anticlimactic. It seems like a fast-paced chain of events that started with a sick baby and ended with a broken family within a day.

Still enjoyable, and I do suggest it, but improvements could be made.
